We would like for you to take part in our discussions. We will talk about managing our herd, food plots, the rut, and hunting methods. We wish to learn from you, and might just be able to give you new insight to the sport of deer hunting.
ABOUT OUR HUNTING
The lease encompasses nine hundred acres, most of which is hardwood bottoms. We have a 200 acre clear cut. A triple wide gas line right-of-way runs through the front half of the property for approximately 1.5 miles. The road to camp is accessible to any motor vehicle. The farther one gets from camp, the more a four wheeler would me advantageous. Security is good for the campsite as it is not visable from the main paved road [hwy 27].
We offer deer, turkey, and hogs. I just saw a flock of nineteen turkeys this past weekend. This year our top weight for a deer was 224 lbs. Biggest hog went 112 lbs. No one hunted the turkeys last year to my knowledge. We maintain twenty food plots on the property. The largest of which is three acres. White oak, red oak, and water oak abound. Honeysuckle covers the swamp. We have eighty five acres of four year old planted pines.
STANDS
Stagg Stable is unique in its stand policy. All stands in our club are open for any member to hunt. A member must build/claim a stand and maintain it. For this he gets first choice to hunt it. We have a map board with a tag system. Tag a stand and no one will bother you. It also provides a safety margin should something happen and we needed to come looking for you. I require that all permanent stands be weather proof [roof]. This way each member has a place to hunt in inclement weather, plus new members have an equal chance to kill a good buck. No one is put in a corner of the property and told they have to hunt this area only.
HARVEST RECORDS
I have harvest records for the club for the past sixteen years. Members sometimes enjoy looking at the records to see if they can see any developing trends. All wildlife harvested on Stagg Stable is required to be recorded on that years harvest record located on the back of the tag station.
CLEANING DEER
We just built a new covered [roof] cleaning station. One can back a four wheeler loaded with a deer right onto the platform and lit it with provided winch and gambrel. Scales are also provided. There are several commercial coolers within five-ten miles to store your deer. The ten mile location also does hogs.
